Go into all the world and make disciples. This is the universal call God extends to all his followers. Yet many think that disciple making is only for the “professional Christian worker.” God makes no such distinction in His Word.
Jesus commanded his followers to recruit other followers for his Kingdom throughout the world. God’s call is for all his followers to work in his vineyard. The Good News is that not only are all called, ALL are empowered and equipped by God for his service.
Students, professionals, yes even retired folk, all have a place in God’s plan to make disciples. He has given the passions and skills which uniquely equip each to reach a certain segment of the population WHERE THEY ARE.
Believers are not excluded because they have not been to seminary. Nor because they can’t raise funds. They can take their profession or vocation and use it to reach co-workers and fellow students. They already have the work skills. What they lack is AWARENESS about tentmaking. And how to INTEGRATE the tentmaking lifestyle into their everyday activities. They need MODELS to show them how to do this.
Organizations like Tent and Global Opportunities exist to develop tentmaking disciplines. They offer websites and articles to educate and prepare tentmakers, equipping them to go to the least reached areas and effectively share their faith.
Individuals often need more personal training. So seminars and courses are offered. Courses require expensive travel. Many times the course schedule does not fit with personal schedules.
This creates a barrier to getting started. Since technology and new training methods offer an alternative, we are working on an online training program for next year.
For those who need a more personal touch and support we are also looking at offering a coaching service. Coaching has become popular in recent years in the business and organizational community. It has produced powerful results.
Coaching has several benefits over the traditional classroom training.
Customized – it is developed around the specific needs of each client.
Focused – time and effort centers on the areas of greatest need for development.
No Travel Required – the person does not have to incur the expense and effort to travel to a classroom location.
Flexible Schedule – the time can fit around each individual’s personal agenda.
Results Oriented – seeks to achieve a specific outcome.
Our A.I.M. coaching will raise awareness of the tentmaker’s readiness. Then identify the next step in their development process. They will integrate the disciplines of tentmaking into their lifestyle. And learn best practices models to use in their ministry.
